Caffeine has high bioavailability and a purine-like alkaloid structure. It exerts wide-ranging physiological effects by binding to adenosine receptors throughout the human body. Through the activation of those receptors, it can regulate many physiological events in the body. The impact of caffeine consumption on depression, anxiety, stress, and human health remains unclear, constituting an important knowledge gap. This review was conducted to examine the effects of caffeine consumption on depression, anxiety, and stress levels and to offer some recommendations for its future use.
Endocrine Disruptors in Child Obesity and Related Disorders: Early Critical Windows of Exposure

Endocrine disruptors (EDs) can mimic or interfere with hormones in the body, leading to non-communicable diseases, such as obesity, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome. Susceptibility to EDs increases during prenatal and postnatal life, a critical time window. This review aims to summarize the latest evidence on the relation of early life exposure to some EDs with obesity and the other metabolic disorders.  RECENT FINDINGS: There is increasing evidence that early life exposure to EDs may impair adipogenesis by increasing the number and size of adipocytes, thereby increasing susceptibility to obesity in childhood. It is stated that exposure to EDs during the prenatal and postnatal period may raise the risk of type 2 diabetes in adulthood by disrupting glucose, lipid, and insulin homeostasis in the offspring. They can also accelerate the development of type 1 diabetes through various mechanisms, like immunomodulation, gut microbiota, and vitamin D pathways. There is a growing understanding that ED exposure during critical stages of life could play an important role in the development of obesity and metabolic disorders. We suggest setting national goals, global standards, and policies to reduce environmental exposure to pregnant and lactating women, and babies, considered sensitive populations.

This review aims to describe optimal circulating FA profiles for BP to adjust dietary recommendations for HTN prevention.

Mitigating Metabolic Dysfunction-associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD): The Role of Bioactive Phytoconstituents in Indian Culinary Spices

The term metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) refers to a group of progressive steatotic liver conditions that include metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), which has varying degrees of liver fibrosis and may advance to cirrhosis, and independent hepatic steatosis. MASLD has a complex underlying mechanism, with patients exhibiting diverse causes and phases of the disease. India has a pool prevalence of MASLD of 38.6% in adults. In 2023, the term NAFLD has been redefined and changed to MASLD. Currently, there are no drugs approved by the FDA for the treatment of MASLD. This study investigates the potential of bioactive phytoconstituents present in spices as a therapeutic approach for MASLD. Moreover, it offers comprehensive data on several pre-clinical studies of bioactive phytoconstituents derived from spices that primarily focus on treating obesity-associated MASLD.

Critical Review of Ketogenic Diet Throughout the Cancer Continuum for Neuroglioma: Insights from a Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) Perspective

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: A Ketogenic diet (KD; a diet comprised of 75% fat, 20% protein and 5% carbohydrates) has gained much popularity in recent years, especially regarding neurogliomas (or "gliomas"). This review critically assesses literature on the application of KD throughout the cancer continuum from a Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) perspective. RECENT FINDINGS: 2021 revised classification standards for Central Nervous System (CNS) tumors are available. Despite research on KD and CNS tumors increasing, the role and benefits of MNT to augment side effects of traditional treatment and KD throughout the cancer continuum remain unclear. Glioma cancer survivors may benefit from a KD. It is a challenging, yet feasible non-pharmacological adjuvant approach. More research is needed regarding KD for prevention and post-treatment of glioma. Standard guidelines regarding macronutrient composition of KD for glioma are warranted. The need and benefits of nutritional guidance provided by a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD or RDNs) during adherence to KD are understated.

Ultra-processed foods (UPFs) represent foods that have undergone substantial industrial processing, such as the addition of preservatives and various other ingredients, thereby making them more tasty, appealing and easy to consume. UPFs are often rich in sugars, saturated fats and salt, while they are low in essential nutrients.The aim of this review is to examine the relationship between the widespread consumption of UPFs and the development of obesity among children and adolescents. Our goal is to further elucidate the potentially devastating outcomes of increased consumption of UPFs in children in terms of adipose indices and metabolic features.

This review evaluates current research on grape-based interventions and their impact on cognitive and mental health. It also explores the putative mechanisms by which the grape-derived compounds might modulate cognitive function. The growing prevalence of cognitive decline and mental health disorders necessitates exploring novel dietary approaches. Grapes, rich in polyphenols, have demonstrated potential benefits in preclinical studies. However, translating these findings to humans remains an ongoing endeavor.

Berries are a great source of fiber, polyunsaturated fatty acids, and beneficial secondary metabolites (polyphenols). Various phytochemicals present in berries (glycosidic-linked flavonoids, anthocyanins, etc.) provide potential health benefits to consumers. Berries are known as high antioxidant food which provides certain cellular and molecular protection thereby lower rates of obesity and chronic disease risk. Molecular-level mechanisms protect a cell, while cellular mechanism considers all molecular units. For example, polyphenols found in blueberries have the potential to significantly reduce adipogenesis. Therefore, in continuation with part I, this review part II summarizes recent updates on the nutritional composition and biological activities of caperberry, chokeberry, cloudberry, cranberry, elderberry, gooseberry, goji berry, and lingonberry.

Edible Berries- An Update on Nutritional Composition and Health Benefits-Part I

This review delves comprehensively into the nutritional profiles and diverse biological activities of different berries. So far 19 different types of berries have been identified for human consumption and studied for their nutritional and biological activities. Among them, acai berry, blueberry, blackberry, black currant, boysenberry, and bilberry have been summarized in this review (Part I). These berries are reported to possess various biological activities including anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antioxidant, antimutagenic, anti-neurodegenerative, and antimicrobial properties. The key to these health-promoting effects lies in the rich array of bioactive compounds present in these berries, including flavonoids, phenolics, anthocyanins, tannins, stilbenes, and phenolic acids which makes these berries promising candidates as sources for functional food ingredients and nutraceuticals.
