MEASUREMENT AND EVALUATION IN COUNSELING AND DEVELOPMENT

Measuring Client Experiences of Motivational Interviewing during a Lifestyle Intervention
Madson MB, Mohn RS, Schumacher JA and Landry AS
The Client Evaluation of Motivational Interviewing was used to assess MI experiences in a predominantly female, African American sample from the Southeastern U.S. who received MI-based feedback during a multi-component lifestyle intervention. MI was experienced differently than a primarily White, male, Northeastern mental health sample.
Further Examining Berry's Model: The Applicability of Latent Profile Analysis to Acculturation
Fox RS, Merz EL, Solórzano MT and Roesch SC
This study used latent profile analysis (LPA) to identify acculturation profiles. A 3-profile solution fit the data best, and comparisons on demographic and psychosocial outcomes as a function of profile yielded expected results. The findings support using LPA as a parsimonious way to model acculturation without anticipating profiles in advance.
The Daily Heterosexist Experiences Questionnaire: Measuring Minority Stress Among Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Adults
Balsam KF, Beadnell B and Molina Y
The authors conducted a three-phase, mixed-methods study to develop a self-report measure assessing the unique aspects of minority stress for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender adults. The Daily Heterosexist Experiences Questionnaire has 50 items and nine subscales with acceptable internal reliability, and construct and concurrent validity. Mean sexual orientation and gender differences were found.
Validation of Scores on The Lifestyle Practices and Health Consciousness Inventory with Black and Latinx Adults in the United States: A Three-Dimensional Model
Kalkbrenner MT
The author tested the psychometric properties of the Lifestyle Practices and Health Consciousness Inventory (LPHCI), an interdisciplinary healthcare screening tool, with a stratified random sample ( = 4,009) of Black and Latinx adults in all 50 states. Results of EFA, CFA, higher-order CFA, and multiple-group CFA all supported a 3-dimensional LPHCI model.
Factorial Invariance of Scores on the Self-Objectification Beliefs and Behaviors Scale (SOBBS) Among Transgender and Nonbinary People
Cascalheira CJ, Nelson J and Kalkbrenner MT
The dimensionality and factorial invariance of scores on the Self-Objectification Beliefs and Behaviors Scale (SOBBS) were examined with a sample of 590 transgender and nonbinary participants. Results failed to disconfirm the two-factor model and provided adequate estimates of internal consistency reliability. Strong, strict, and structural invariance of scores were observed.
Knowledge about Treatment (KaT) in Mental Health Services
Blanchard BE, Mata-Greve F, Johnson M and Fortney JC
This study developed and psychometrically evaluated a brief measure of mental health treatment knowledge ( = 726). Scores from (KaT) demonstrated a unidimensional measure with good model fit, internal consistency reliability, convergent and predictive validity, test-retest reliability, and measurement invariance across gender, ethnicity, education, and poverty status.
Screening Utility of the PHQ-2 and PHQ-9 for Depression in College Students: Relationships with Substantive Scales of the MMPI-3
Morris NM, Ingram PB, Mitchell SM and Victor SE
We investigated the validity and screening effectiveness of the PHQ-2 and PHQ-9 scores in 229 college students in a cross-sectional design. PHQ associations with Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-3 internalizing scales suggest PHQ scores are effective screening tools for college students and may aid in effective triage and service needs.
Development and Initial Validation of Scores on The Lifestyle Practices and Health Consciousness Inventory-2: Brief Version
Kalkbrenner MT, Bradley M and Sun H
We developed and validated scores on the Lifestyle Practices and Health Consciousness Inventory (LPHCI)-2: Brief Version, a short form for measuring global wellness (mental and physical health). Tests of internal structure (EFA, CFA, and higher-order CFA) as well as convergent validity supported the psychometric properties of LPHCI-2: Brief Version scores.
Measurement Invariance of Scores on the Somatic Symptom Scale-8: National Sample of Non-Clinical Adults in the United States
Kalkbrenner MT, Gainza Perez MA and Hubbard JS
The aim of the present study was to test the factorial invariance and convergent validity evidence of scores on the Somatic Symptom Scale (SSS)-8 with a national sample of adults living in the United States.
