[Neuraxial anesthesia in patients with multiple sclerosis - a systematic review]
Current guidelines for neuraxial analgesia in patients with multiple sclerosis are ambiguous and offer the clinician only a limited basis for decision making. This systematic review examines the number of cases in which multiple sclerosis has been exacerbated after central neuraxial analgesia in order to rationally evaluate the safety of these procedures.
[Postpartum hemorrhage and pregnancy induced hypertension during emergency lower segment cesarean section: dexmedetomidine to our rescue]
Dexmedetomidine is a highly selective α-2 agonist which has recently revolutionized our anesthesia and intensive care practice. An obstetric patient presented for emergency cesarean delivery under general anesthesia, with pre-eclampsia and postpartum hemorrhage. In carefully selected cases with refractory hypertension and postpartum hemorrhage, dexmedetomidine can be used for improving overall patient outcome. It was beneficial in controlling both the blood pressure and uterine bleeding during cesarean section in our patient.
[Comparison of different methods of nasogastric tube insertion in anesthetized and intubated patients]
Nasogastric tube insertion may be difficult in anesthetized and intubated patients with head in the neutral position. Several techniques are available for the successful insertion of nasogastric tube. The primary aim of this study was to investigate the difference in the first attempt success rate of different techniques for insertion of nasogastric tube. Secondary aim was to investigate the difference of the duration of insertion using the selected technique, complications during insertion such as kinking and mucosal bleeding.
[Anesthetic requirements measured by bilateral bispectral analysis and femoral blockade in total knee arthroplasty]
A continuous peripheral nerve blockade has proved benefits on reducing postoperative morphine consumption; the combination of a femoral blockade and general anesthesia on reducing intraoperative anesthetic requirements has not been studied. The objective of this study was to determine the relevance of timing in the performance of femoral block to intraoperative anesthetic requirements during general anesthesia for total knee arthroplasty.
[Anesthesia for intestinal obstruction in a six years old child with cerebro-oculo-facio-skeletal syndrome]
[Comparison of different stylets used for intubation with the C-MAC D-Blade Videolaryngoscope: a randomized controlled study]
The angle of the C-MAC D-Blade videolaryngoscope, which is used for difficult airway interventions, is not compatible with routinely used endotracheal tubes.
[Post-operative pain after ultrasound transversus abdominis plane block versus trocar site infiltration in laparoscopic nephrectomy: a prospective study]
Transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block is useful in reducing post-operative pain in laparoscopic nephrectomy compared to placebo. The purpose of this work is to compare post-operative pain and recovery after TAP block or trocar site infiltration (TSI) in this surgery.
[Influence of perfusion status on central and mixed venous oxygen saturation in septic patients]
Although there is controversy regarding the role of venous oxygen saturation in the initial resuscitation of septic patients with hypoperfusion, these markers are still widely used. This study aimed to evaluate the correlation and concordance between central (SvcO) and mixed (SvO) oxygen saturation in septic shock patients with or without hypoperfusion, in addition to the impact of these differences in patient conduction.
[Is there still an indication for the use of succinylcholine in cesarean section? The answer is no]
[Dexmedetomidine preconditioning protects against lipopolysaccharides-induced injury in the human alveolar epithelial cells]
Dexmedetomidine (DEX) has demonstrated the preconditioning effect and shown protective effects against organize injury. In this study, using A549 (human alveolar epithelial cell) cell lines, we investigated whether DEX preconditioning protected against acute lung injury (ALI) in vitro.
[Comparison of granisetron and lidocaine on reducing injection pain of etomidate: a controlled randomized study]
Reducing pain on injection of anesthetic drugs is of importance to every anesthesiologist. In this study we pursued to define if pretreatment by granisetron reduces the pain on injection of etomidate similar to lidocaine.
[Axillary local anesthetic spread after the thoracic interfacial ultrasound block - a cadaveric and radiological evaluation]
Oral opioid analgesics have been used for management of peri- and postoperative analgesia in patients undergoing axillary dissection. The axillary region is a difficult zone to block and does not have a specific regional anesthesia technique published that offers its adequate blockade.
[YouTube as an information source of spinal anesthesia, epidural anesthesia and combined spinal and epidural anesthesia]
Social media as YouTube have become a part of daily life and many studies evaluated health-related YouTube videos. Our aim was to evaluate videos available on YouTube for the conformity to textbook information and their sufficiency as a source for patient information.
[Functional respiratory imaging after neostigmine- or sugammadex-enhanced recovery from neuromuscular blockade in the anesthetised rat: a randomised controlled pilot study]
Reductions in diaphragm activity are associated with the postoperative development of atelectasis. Neostigmine reversal is also associated with increased atelectasis. We assessed the effects of neostigmine, sugammadex, and spontaneous reversal on regional lung ventilation and airway flow.
[Anesthesia recovery comparison between remifentanil-propofol and remifentanil-desflurane guided by Bispectral Index monitoring]
There is a strong demand for fast and predictable anesthesia recovery with few side effects. Choice of the hypnotic agent could impact on that. This study investigated the differences between recoveries after remifentanil-propofol and remifentanil-desflurane anesthesias guided by bispectral index (BIS).
[Severe hypoxemia follows hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction and/or hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction inhibition by inhaled anesthetics: prognostic potential of 100% shunt fractions]
[Postoperative excessive blood loss after cardiac surgery can be predicted with International Society on Thrombosis and Hemostasis scoring system]
Prediction of postoperative excessive blood loss is useful for management of Intensive Care Unit after cardiac surgery. The aim of present study was to examine the effectiveness of International Society on Thrombosis and Hemostasis scoring system in patients with cardiac surgery.
[A comparison of three different needles used for spinal anesthesia in terms of squamous epithelial cell transport risk]
To investigate the differences in the number of squamous epithelial cells carried to the spinal canal by three different types of spinal needle tip of the same size.
