An update on surgical management for stress urinary incontinence
Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is a common condition for which women often opt for surgical management. Synthetic midurethral slings (MUS) have been the dominant treatment for decades. Single-incision slings (SIS) have been introduced to lower the morbidity associated with trocar passage during MUS placement. Urethral bulking has been used less frequently owing to its lower cure rates. New data have recently emerged in support of single-incision slings (SIS) and urethral bulking with Bulkamid polyacrylamide hydrogel (PAHG).
The advent of immune checkpoint inhibition for the treatment of patients with primary advanced or recurrent dMMR/MSI high endometrial cancer in 2025
The Cancer Genome Atlas identified four distinct molecular subtypes of endometrial cancer (EC): POLE mutated, mismatch repair deficient (dMMR), copy number low, and copy number high. The goal of this review is to summarize the profound clinical implications of molecular subtyping, particularly in guiding treatment decisions for dMMR and microsatellite instability high (MSI-H) EC.
Aftercare following second trimester abortion procedures
The purpose of this review is to examine patient experiences following second-trimester abortion care to identify clinical interventions to improve aftercare.
Rh sensitization in abortion care: where we've been and where we're going
The purpose of this review is to summarize the historical context and recent literature that contribute to the debate about preventive strategies for Rhesus (Rh)-alloimmunization in abortion are.
Adolescent reproductive health in a post- Dobbs landscape: a review
To summarize notable recent research in adolescent reproductive health, particularly with respect to a rapidly changing legal landscape surrounding health services that significantly impact adolescent health.
Management of blood loss in second-trimester abortion
While major complications in second-trimester abortion are rare, blood loss and hemorrhage are among the most common and have the potential for high morbidity. Here, we review the current literature on risk factors, prevention, and treatment of blood loss in second-trimester abortion.
Waste not want not: the story of surgical trash
Our escalating reliance on disposable products in the operating room has generated a large amount of waste, cost, and environmental pollution. Heath damages from the pollution caused by the US healthcare industry cause as much harm, as measured by disability-adjusted life years, as total medical errors. Our response to our own environmental impact should be proportional to that harm. Understanding the waste streams we create and the factors that contribute to our large waste generation in the operating room can help us target solutions to our most harmful practices.
Patient navigation in reproductive healthcare
This review summarizes evidence about barriers to abortion care pre- Dobbs and post- Dobbs , inequities in abortion access, and approaches to improving access to abortion care with use of patient navigators.
A review of ethnic disparities in preeclampsia
Recent reports have reiterated the inequities in maternal morbidity and mortality for minority ethnic groups, with preeclampsia being a significant concern. Females of Black and South Asian ethnicity have an increased risk of preeclampsia with disproportionately higher adverse outcomes compared to white females.
Two years in a post- Dobbs world: clinical, social and professional consequences
Dobbs v Jackson Women's Health Organization revoked the decades-old precedent that pregnancy termination is a constitutional right. This review article explores the research landscape describing the consequences of overturning Roe v Wade for patients and providers.
Abortion in entertainment media, 2019-2024
Entertainment media contribute to how people understand and make sense of health issues, especially stigmatized ones such as abortion. This paper reviews the peer-reviewed literature published between 2019 and 2024 on how abortion is depicted in scripted television and film available for viewing in the United States.
Biologic grafts for pelvic organ prolapse repairs: what have we learned in the last 20 years?
The ideal graft material for the augmentation of pelvic organ prolapse (POP) has yet to be discovered. While synthetic mesh offers durable repairs this can be at the expense of mesh complications. Biologic grafts have been considered an alternative. This chapter reviews biologic graft materials as applied to POP surgery.
Access to maternity care: challenges and solutions for improving equity across US communities
Improving maternal health is a clinical and policy priority in the United States. We reviewed recent literature on access to maternity care and impacts on racial and geographic equity.
Expanding access to postpartum contraception
Women are particularly vulnerable to unintended pregnancy in the 12 months following a birth. Improving access to postpartum contraception within maternity settings can prevent unintended and closely spaced births, improving the health of mother and child. This review will summarize the recent research in postpartum contraception (PPC), building on existing knowledge and developments in this field.
Menopausal hormone therapy for breast cancer survivors
The global incidence of breast cancer continues to increase and increasing efficacy of treatments has improved overall prognosis and survival with a resulting requisite focus on improving quality of life after cancer. Treatment inevitably results in symptoms of menopause and these symptoms may be more severe after cancer treatment compared to natural menopause and may pose a potential risk of early treatment discontinuation. Consequently, the global burden of successfully managing these symptoms is significant.
No test medical abortion - a review of the evidence on selective use of preabortion testing
The last decade has seen a cascade of different telemedicine models for medical abortion (MA) being tested and implemented. Among these service delivery models is the 'no-test' MA model, in which care is provided remotely and eligibility for the MA is based on history alone. The purpose of this review is to provide an overview of the existing evidence for no-test MA.
Medical management of endometriosis
While laparoscopic surgery plays a key role in the management of endometriosis, symptoms commonly recur, and repeat surgery comes with increased risk. Medical management, including hormonal and nonhormonal treatment, is vital in managing painful symptoms. This review summarizes recent evidence regarding various medical management options available to treat pelvic pain associated with endometriosis.
Enhancing equity in cervical screening - initiatives to increase screening participation
Cervical cancer can be eliminated as a public health problem through a three-pillar approach including high coverage of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination and HPV-based cervical screening, and treatment of precancers and invasive cancers. However, access inequities prevent many women and people with a cervix benefitting from these life-saving advances. This review focuses on evidence-based interventions that can improve equity and scale-up of cervical screening.
Antibody-drug conjugates as targeted therapy for treating gynecologic cancers: update 2025
Provide the most up-to-date information on the dynamic landscape of antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) in gynecologic cancers. We discuss the latest research that supports the approved ADCs and outline the ongoing trials and preliminary results that may lead to ADC approvals in the future. Current gaps in knowledge and areas for future research are discussed.
