Factors impacting tumor displacement artifact and pseudo-lymphovascular invasion in testicular germ cell tumors
Ahmed RO and Zynger DL
Testicular germ cell tumors are susceptible to tumor displacement artifact (TDA), which produces pseudo-lymphovascular invasion (LVI) and confounds the identification of true LVI. Our study aimed to evaluate tumor displacement artifact and pseudo-LVI in testicular germ cell tumors and determine if prolonged fixation improves histological quality.
Simplifying acquisition of essential diagnostics: A comprehensive costing tool for anatomic pathology
LeJeune-Stodieck A, Seymour D, Graef K, Hategekimana E, Mbarushimana D, Ndayisaba MC, Pereira de Assis EAC, Yeabyo GO, Nweke MC, Berhane B, Emmanuel H, Ruhangaza D, Weber C, Basu D, Landgraf K and Milner D
Histopathology is the core diagnostic tool for cancer in pathology laboratories around the world, but there are disparities in access to diagnostics globally. As recognition of the need for cancer care and treatment grows, especially in the wake of World Health Organization programs for cervical, breast, and pediatric cancers, policymakers and health care funders are seeking tools and processes that allow for the largest number of patients to receive a diagnosis at the lowest cost.

Inadequate laboratory infrastructure and testing capabilities are a major impediment to addressing the infectious disease burden in Africa. Therefore, the aims of this study were to characterize the clinical microbiology/infectious disease laboratory capabilities among countries in Africa.
High α-SMA expression in the tumor stroma is associated with adverse clinical parameters in mismatch repair-proficient colorectal cancers only
Sculthorpe DJ, Denton A, Fadhil W, Rusnita D, Ilyas M and Mukherjee A
As mismatch repair status confers differential prognosis in colorectal cancers, this study aimed to determine associations of α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) protein expression in mismatch repair-proficient (pMMR) and mismatch repair-deficient (dMMR) colorectal tumors with clinicopathologic and prognostic features.
Intracapillary monoclonal IgM deposits disease with massive pseudothrombi: A clinicopathologic study of 4 cases and literature review
Ma L, Liang D, Yao X, Yang X, Li S, Adelibieke Y, Xu F, Liang S, Chen D, Yang F, Wang X, Tang Y, Jia R and Zeng C
Intracapillary monoclonal IgM deposits disease (ICMDD) has long been considered a hallmark of Waldenström macroglobulinemia (WM) nephropathy. Intracapillary immunoglobulin thrombi are the characteristic features of cryoglobulinemic glomerulonephritis. Here, we reported 4 cases of ICMDD with massive pseudothrombi but without WM or cryoglobulinemia.

Diagnostic incidence and pitfalls of rete testis hyperplasia and hyaline globules in a multi-institutional study of 348 testicular germ cell tumors
Potterveld SK, Akgul M, Pacheco R, Humble RM, Mubeen A, Williamson SR, Gosnell H and Sangoi AR
The concept of rete hyperplasia with hyaline globules simulating testicular yolk sac tumor was first reported in a mostly retrospective review over 30 years ago. Nonetheless, we continue to encounter examples where this scenario resulted in misdiagnosis. Herein, we sought to investigate the incidence of rete hyperplasia/hyaline globules in germ cell tumors and their associated subtypes and hypothesize an etiology.
Reduced cervical sampling of hysterectomy specimens with negative margins on conization: An opportunity to improve resource utilization
Al-Nattah S, Martin A, Normington L, Weisman PS, Wallace S and McGregor SM
The current recommendation for hysterectomy specimens performed for cervical cancer following conization is that the entire cervix be submitted for histologic examination. Given the high cost of medical procedures and concerns regarding difficulties with laboratory staffing, we sought to evaluate the potential for selective histologic examination in this setting.

Davis K, Bailey G, Butcher MR, Dombrowski K, Fomchenko KM, Schendzielos R, Boyd K, Nath N, Hanyok LA, Hruban RH, Wake LM, White MJ and Ware AD
Recent studies have shown that the pathology workforce is at risk of decreased workplace well-being, which may lead to decreased job satisfaction, increased attrition, burnout, depression, anxiety, and suicidality, but there has been relatively little research on well-being initiatives designed for pathologists, pathology trainees, and laboratory professionals. Some studies have suggested that well-being initiatives may decrease burnout and increase workplace satisfaction and engagement.
